1959, Miss Joy Scaling

11 December 1959

Aberdeen Evening Express, Scotland

The woman in this newspaper article is described as a member of the educational speech training staff – does this perhaps refer to speech therapy?  She is Miss Joy Scaling and she lived in Scotland, where several of the newly trained speech therapists seemed to congregate.  Perhaps there was a centre there?

Joy trained at Rose Bruford College (Bruford, herself, was trained by Elsie Fogerty at Central, and was also trained in mime by Irene Mawer).  In addition to her time at Rose Bruford College, Joy also trained in mime under Irene Mawer.

Unfortunately, I can’t see on this news clipping just where Joy was working at that time, but she is written about in glowing terms, and it was predicted that she was sure to do well.
