Giavera War Grave, Italy

In a few days time, I will visit the grave of Robert Jacomb Norris Dale, Irene Mawer’s first husband.

Robert was killed in action very close to the end of World War One.  He died in Italy and is buried near Venice.

I don’t know if Irene ever visited, perhaps she did as later in life she was able to holiday in both Italy and Greece.  I hope that she had the opportunity.

I will be visiting in winter, two days before New Year.  From there, I will be journeying onward, to Greece, to pay my own little pilgrimage of respect to the land so beloved of Irene Mawer.
