A Partial Success
My intention is to create a set of books about Irene Mawer. The first will be the biography, and the second will be a collection of press cuttings.
The second one has actually been more or less finished for several months and I just couldn’t wait any longer to see it. So I have printed off a single copy of what I am calling the protoype.
I am pleased with it, but there is still a lot of work to do on it. My friend has pointed out that the spacing between the lines and the paragraphs is too big – and she is right. Also, I was disappointed with the colour of the cover, it is not as bright as I had imagined it. I have looked into it, and I now realise that the cover that I made on Canva uses RGB – which are colours for digital devices (ie, e-books), and I have to somehow convert this to CMYK.
I was especially keen to see how the photographs worked out. They were sadly lacking. I need people to be able to read the words on the newspaper clippings – but the resolution is too low. So I have to learn about dpi’s and MB’s. Good grief!
Everyone always says that writing your own book is easy – they don’t tell you that if you want to do it well, it is darned hard work!
