Heaven Spare Us!
This is a neat little review of the Mime Parade, at the Aldwych Theatre.
Part of the review reads ‘the expert touch given to these five mimes ancient and modern was in large measure due to the exquisite example of the president, Irene Mawer, who was seen in several of the numbers. Here is someone who can tell a tale with a touch of a little finger.’ Praise indeed.
The review continues in a jovial tone: ‘HEAVEN SPARE US! Radio Breakfast warned us what to expect if the BBC give us physical jerks at 8am.’ Haha, how prescient was that? Breakfast TV, of course, went on to give us the Green Goddess and Mr Motivator, and during the Covid lock down, Joe Wicks. I would love to know what Irene Mawer’s thoughts on physical jerks at breakfast time were – the sketch sounds quite comical.
Irene Mawer gave much to the world of theatre and yet has ben skimmed over by historians. Please help to bring her into the limelight by commenting on and sharing this post. Thank you.
