EDINBURGH PLAYGOERS’ CIRCLE

Among Irene Mawer’s collection of news clippings relating to the Institute of Mime, are these two (pictured) which feature the Edinburgh Playgoers’ Circle.

Both clippings simply state that the first annual general meeting has taken place and then lists the relevant people (mainly men, it would seem…) who were elected to office:

Chairman – Mr J R Copland;

Vice-chairman – Mr David Cleghorn Thomson (without a P);

Treasurer – Mr Douglas A Donald, BA, LLB (…a lawyer?…), advocate;

Secretary – Mr Rolland J B Munro;

Assistant Secretary – Mr G A Fitzroy Robinson;

Committee Members:

Mr James Wallace Bell, late of the Cambridge Festival Theatre, leader of experimental theatre section, producer and playwright;

Miss M R Caird, scene designer, leader of the theatre arts section;

Miss Butler, Scottish representative of the Institute of Mime, leader of mime section (this is presumably Peggy Butler who was mentioned in a clipping from 4 March 1935);

Miss Nancy Munro, secretary Scottish area, Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, leader of ballet and dance section;

Miss Margaret Marr;

Miss Nannie Brown;

Mrs Creswick
