Olympia Theatre, Athens

Oh dear!  And I pride myself on my research. Ha ha ha.  I wanted to visit the Olympia Theatre in Athens, as the Ginner-Mawer School performed there as part of the second Delphic Festival, in 1930.

However, it was only the keen research brain of Greek archeologist, Chloe, that picked up on the fact that Irene’s theatre was demolished in 1954.  And the current one is a re-build.  Whoops!  I totally missed that.  I’m so glad Chloe put me right, hee hee hee.

We visited the theatre anyway, or at least the outside of it.  I had previously emailed the theatre asking if I could look inside, but they didn’t reply.  This seems to be par for the course in Greece, as I have also not had any joy from the town of Amfissa.  I have been contacting them for a year to try and find out about the event in 1948 when both Mawer and Ginner were awarded the freedom of the city.  I will still visit the town, but am not hopeful of doing any research…
