Inside the Amphitheatre
I finally made it into an amphitheatre!
I have wanted to go into one all of my life, and have at last achieved the ambition. I have seen other amphitheatres here in Greece, but they were all closed to the public (either because it is winter, or because they are unsafe for public access). So (if a little belatedly), here is Epidaurus.
In fact, I went to two theatres called Epidaurus on the same day, one in the morning and then this one (pictured) in the afternoon. We went to the first one by mistake, ha ha ha. It wasn’t until afterwards that Andy was studying the map and he realised that the ‘real’ Epidaurus theatre was a few miles in the other direction.
Not to worry, I really enjoyed the ‘wrong’ one, it was in a stunning hillside location, overlooking two crystal clear bays with curving coast lines.
Greece is lovely, and I am grateful to be undertaking this mini-pilgrimage to Irene Mawer.
