If Irene Mawer were still alive, she would be due to turn 132 on Thursday (13th March).
Irene was born in Wandsworth (near London) in 1893 and lived in that general area for all of her youth. She attended Putney High School – which she loved, and she acted in amateur plays in local theatres. Both of her husbands came from the same approximate area, ie, south west London.
Over the years, Irene lived in Boscastle (in Cornwall, where she relocated due to the Second World War), Cheltenham, Edgbaston (in Birmingham), and the village of Blewbury, near Oxford.
Irene died in 1962 and her ashes were scattered at a crematorium near Oxford.
