Twin Arts

Irene Mawer devoted her whole life to the stage arts and all of the background to them.  She believed wholeheartedly that movement and voice belonged together, and that to excel in one of them required at least a knowledge of the other.  She realised that it was unlikely that someone would be brilliant in all aspects of everything, but that in order to shine in, say Greek Dance, it was necessary to at least understand how to speak the poetry that accompanied it, even if you couldn’t speak it as perfectly as you could dance it.  

Her aim was:

“…to unite the twin arts of Dance and Drama, for the art of movement and the art of speech are two halves which make a perfect whole.”
