IRENE MAWER: British Pioneer of Mime and Theatre Arts
The Ginner-Mawer Schools Approach to Female Artistic Expression: A New Biography and Technical Study by Janet Fizz Curtis
I was trained in the Irene Mawer method of mime, but for decades she remained a mystery to me.
A search for more information about the woman behind the technique revealed a shocking lack of resources. It was disappointing that someone who achieved so much (such as writing the seminal textbook The Art of Mime, and performing at the Second Delphic Festival in Athens) could be so easily forgotten.
If no one else was going to write her biography, the task would have to be mine. The last seven years have been spent living and working from a camper van, travelling to archives and piecing a life back together before it is lost forever. This book is the result of that journey – a way of making sure Miss Mawer’s story is finally told.
