Pittville Gardens, Cheltenham

This flyer, and the newspaper clipping attached to it are causing me some confusion!

There is no date.  Written in fountain pen are the words “This may be the future G-M School”.  Yet, in the newspaper clipping, there is a reference to the Civic Theatre fire – but this happened once the G-M School was already in Cheltenham.

UNLESS – this performance took place when the School premises were in Temple Guiting (circa 1946), which was slightly before the Rotunda.  Perhaps they had the Playhouse at the same time as the Temple Guiting property.  Or it could have been that the Temple Guiting was student accommodation only – not school rooms… I don’t yet know!

Also, the Rotunda is not called the Rotunda at this point – it is still called the Pittville Pump Room.  I have a little more sleuthing to do.

Leslie French, the star of the show, was a good friend of the Ginner-Mawer School and had been so since well before the start of World War 2.
